Comparison and contrast between my student’s
characteristics to the ones described in the chapter.
What my students were like?
My
students were very kind but some of them were very hyperactive. Even the ones
that were hyperactive are such good kids; all of them were absolutely
respectful. Besides, they were very
happy to have a new teacher in some classes.
I
really like the fact that students acted as a group. They support the kids that
have problems. Sometimes, I realized that some students take care of other
student’s attitudes for example: if one of them was screaming or talking or
standing, they told him or her “please be quiet”. Also, they are very logical.
They knew when something was fiction.
Also,
my students loved to play. They were exciting to make new activities such as
games, warm ups, and other. They were active and hard working. They loved to
share food and things like those. I only noticed that they didn’t want to share
toys, but at that moment the teacher was monitoring them.
To
make a comparison between the characteristics of my students and the students
that the chapter describes; I could notice that there were a lot of things that
were almost the same as the book says.
My
students seem to know everything; they make other students corrections and
argue about what they believe. For that reason, teachers have to remember that
children are very different from adults Teachers know that students can’t
decide for themselves about what to learn. They need a guide, a facilitator.
Students
can talk about what they are doing and it is the same as it says in the book.
Besides, they can tell you about what they have done or heard, they can use
logical reasoning, they can use their imaginations, they can understand direct
human interaction, they can use a wide range of intonation patterns in their
mother tongue, and they can understand the rules in the classroom.
But
in contrast with the book, they have problems with planning activities, and
they understand very well if the teacher gives the directions in English. Also
in my experience, I could notice that they have a very long attention and
concentration. Some of the students love to work with a partner or in group,
but other like to work alone that’s why teachers must include different forms
of work in the classroom.
I
realized that my students have a lot of abilities for example: With the oral
activities, in some control practice, they did it very good since they are much
familiarized with the language so their pronunciation is very good. With the
free activities, they try to do it well but his vocabulary and grammar is not
enough. Even though they had some problems to speak in English, they surprised
me since they manage a lot of vocabulary for their age.
The writing skill is very
important in the classroom since a big part of the class was about to make them
write words, letters, numbers, and other. They manage very good the written
skill in control practice but because of their age in free practice some of
them were confused. But with the help of the teacher they did it correctly.
