III. TRADITIONAL TEACHING AND 21ST CENTURY TEACHING.

III. COMPARE TRADITIONAL TEACHING AND 21ST CENTURY TEACHING.

a. Write out the top ten traits of the 21st century ELT practitioner (teacher’s profile) explain each of them.
1.An ELT practitioner must be really creative because sometimes you need to improvise an activity, for example when the activity don´t work, so you as the teacher need to think really quickly using the sources that you have or creative to make the material that you will use in a class.
2- An ELT practitioner must be outgoing because he/she will talk in front of people and she or he can´t be shy especially teaching to children because they will feel if you are comfortable or if you are nervous.
3- A good practitioner must be a really good actor or actress because you will play different roles in the classroom maybe you will play a drama in the class and you need to play as a character.
4- An excellent ELT practitioner must be really patience because sometimes children would not understand what you are teaching and maybe you will need to repeat the same activity several times.
5- An ELT practitioner should use technology sometimes because is a good resource to look for material like worksheets or a song for the lesson.
6- He or she must understand his/her students when the teacher is  teaching kindergarteners this is really important because some of them are sentimental or it is difficult to understand a topic, and the teacher needs to think in a way in which they can learn and enjoy at the same time.
7-A good practitioner must enjoy spending time with children and loving to teach them because he/she needs to be passionate.
8-He/ she should have a child soul because kindergarteners love to play games.
9- A good practitioner must use activities that are familiar for the student, in that way is easier for them to learn a new language.
10-  A good ELT practitioner must be attentive to their students problems to internalize the language or if the lesson or the activity is so difficult for them, so he needs to think what can he/she change in his/her way to teach, and what kind of strategies can he apply to help their students.
b) Describe the salient traits between NESTs and non-NESTs. Provide Reasoning and reflection upon your choice.
We can say that non-nest teachers come from a country in which English is not an official language, and the characteristics of these teachers are the following:
-They focus more on grammar, they are always correcting students in their way to write or to use the structures when they are speaking.
-They teach English from the books, they are not native speaker, so their knowledge about the language is from books or another kind of sources.
-They know that they do not know everything about English, but it inspires them to improve and investigate to learn more, they are all-life learners because they are still learning and they have the goal to become better teachers every day.
Also we have the nest teacher, and their characteristics are the following:
-They are more relaxed than a non-nest
-They teach real life vocabulary instead of English from books and at the same time they do not focus on grammar structures they want to make their students to talk and use the language.
-They prefer to use free activities instead of controlled activities, but they do not give much homework assignment.
We think that the best teacher is a non-nest one because even though they are stricter, but they are learners to such as their students and that is an advantage because they know what kind of problems a student will have to learn the language, he will be attentive to them and will know how to correct the mistake. And they usually are learning and looking for new ways to improve as a teacher, so for that reason both are good teacher but a non-nest have a great advantage because of that.
